Learn Spanish in the beautiful Guanacaste Province with experienced and caring professionals. We have designed a variety of different courses in Spanish language to satisfy the needs of each and every student. At Pura Vida Language Center we always focus on learning and enjoying and connecting you to Costa Rica’s rich culture. We provide our students with functional vocabulary and ensure that they have a lot of opportunities to practice and speak throughout the lessons.
As your language development advances, our program evolves to challenge you with more advanced vocabulary and language concepts that will enrich your interactions using the Spanish language. Whether you are starting from zero or are ready to start speaking like the locals, Pura Vida Language Center is here to help you learn Spanish.
Levels: Summary of levels according to the European Guidelines
A: Basic Level
A1: The student is capable of interacting in a simple way when the other person speaks slowly and clearly asking for something and giving basic information (address, age, nationality, physical attributes, etc.). The students understands and uses everyday common expressions and simple sentences in the present form.
A2: The student is capable of understanding and using common expressions. Also, the student can give information about themselves, speaking about their family, and about local places and shopping.
In addition, the student can communicate and speak about regular and daily routines, which require simple and direct exchange of communication. The student may begin speaking about activities in their past in a brief, clear format.
B: Intermediate level
B1: The student is capable of producing simple texts on topics that are familiar or of interest to him/her. In addition, the student is capable of understanding the key points in a clear text related to work, studies, or leisure.
He/she can deal with situations likely to arise whilst in an area where the language is spoken. He/she is also competent in describing experiences, events and dreams. He/she is beginning to give opinions and reasons for thoughts and plans.
B2: In the advanced intermediate level, the student is capable of understanding the main idea in a detailed text, including technical discussions in a specified area. He/she is able to interact with fluidity and spontaneity with native speakers. Also, the student is capable of producing clear texts about a range of themes, giving points of view, and comparing ideas.
C: Advanced level
C1: The student is capable of understanding a wide range of complex texts, noting the implicit meaning. He/she can use the target language effectively in different social, academic, and professional situations. Furthermore, the student can produce well-structured texts, using a complex, cohesive and organized structure.
C2: The student is capable of understanding with ease everything that they see or hear. He/she excels at expressing his/herself with great fluidity, spontaneity, and precision. The student can differentiate between fine shades of meaning. The student can also summarize and reconstruct information and arguments of various sources, in spoken and written language.
Specific courses
Specific professions require proficiency in specialized vocabulary and learning Spanish is becoming more important. Nurses and doctors need specific medical terminology and vocabulary about medications and the body. Those in trades, like plumbing or electric, need specific technical vocabulary to effectively communicate issues. Numerous other professions have subsets of language they need to convey ideas effectively.
This course is aimed at professionals in an area specific to the needs of the student. Prior to the start of the course, the student and instructor will meet to discuss industry standards and set language acquisition goals in preparation for the career field. Whatever your needs are, we will help you learn Spanish and progress in your field.
